Failure to Thrive

It is perhaps unusual that a European cyclist and a Cuban violinist are bound by a brake wire in La Bicicleta, El Violín. The two are distant, in geography and reality: the former may wind through a valley with equipment of high caliber and price; the latter plays ballads in a country that, despite its fame for musical virtuosity, suffers from an increasingly severe shortage of quality instruments. He moves for the sake of movement; she plays with a need for sound.
